Sometimes patients have multiple dental issues they want to address. Full mouth reconstruction combines several restorative procedures into one comprehensive treatment plan. This approach is typically more conservative and more affordable than performing several standalone procedures. Dr. Stephen C. Dental Fillings

Fillings are used to repair teeth with mild to moderate decay or damage. One of the most popular restorative treatments, fillings can usually be completed in a single office visit. 

Following the procedure, patients can resume normal activities right away. While it may take an hour or two for the anesthesia to wear off, most individuals feel back to normal quickly.

Crowns and Bridges

Custom restorations like crowns and bridges generally take two office visits to complete. During the first visit, the teeth are prepared and impressions are taken. During the second appointment, you will be fitted with your new restoration. 

Many patients report some sensitivity in the days following their procedure. But in most cases, you will be able to resume normal activities the same day.

Root Canal Therapy

Root canal therapy is necessary when the pulp of the tooth is invaded by bacteria. During this process, your dentist removes the nerves and blood vessels inside the tooth, then disinfects it. The canals are then filled with a restorative material and the tooth is sealed with a filling – and in some cases, a crown. 

Following root canal therapy, many patients notice sensitivity in the tissues around the tooth. These may also be slight swelling and inflammation. These side effects typically diminish within a couple of days.

Tooth Extraction

If a tooth has a poor long-term prognosis, it may be best to remove it. When a tooth is extracted, Dr. Dowell also cleans out any infection in the area.

Depending on the extent of surgery, recovery following a tooth extraction can take about one week. It takes a few days for the gum tissue to close over the socket. It can take several more months for the bone underneath to fully heal. From a comfort standpoint, most patients are back to normal within three to five days.

Dental Implants

Dental implants are a common teeth replacement option, and with good reason. With proper care, they can last a lifetime. During this procedure, your dentist places the implant directly into the jawbone. Once healed, implants can support crowns, bridges, or dentures.

After dental implant placement, the surrounding bone tissue must fuse to the implant. This process, called osseointegration, can take four to sixl months to complete. Immediate healing, however, usually only takes a few days.
